World of Warcraft: How to Make Gold

By McGilwriter

Making WoW gold in game is very easy, but you will have to put some time into it. There are a few good methods, and I’ll try to touch on all of them. Overall, you just need to try each one and figure out what works for you. Make sure you have at least one level 85 character, though you can make lots of gold leveling up if you know how to do that too. Here is a list of a few popular methods to making gold in World of Warcraft.

Questing

There is way more quests in game than needed to make level 85. Once you get to level 85, head out and complete quests in the different high level zones. Questing is easier than ever with the built in quest finder log. Your map shows you exactly where to go, and each quest gives you about 11g each. You can then do dailies (blue question marks), up to 25 a day, and make about 13g each quest. If you decide this is the route you want to go, I’d suggest heading back to Icecrown and the Crusader’s Coliseum in Icecrown and complete the dailies there. Once you work your way to exalted with all your home factions, you will open up a number of dailies which give you 10g to complete and reward a bag with another 15g (25g each for the mathematically challenged).

The pros on this method are there is usually no competition. You work your dailies without interacting with most people and you are done within a few hours. You aren’t dependant on anyone else. The problem is you will only make about 250g in a few hours work. There are better ways to making gold faster, but none easier than questing.

Gathering

Mining, herbalism and skinning are the three gathering professions which generate some quick wow gold. Herbalism and mining are the focus here, though skinning has its niche too. I like to have herbalism and mining on one character, which should be a paladin or death knight due to class mounted speed buffs. As you level up your character, mine and herb as you go, and put everything you get up on the Auction House. Even low level herbs and ore are valuable to others who are leveling up different professions.

Once you get to level 85 on your character, head out and fly around. It will take some trial and error, but notice the faster you go, the quicker you pick up herbs and ore. So buy a faster mount as soon as possible, and join a guild which is high enough level to get the mount speed buff and the bonus to gathering! Once you get some good routes, invest in some herbalism bags and mining bags. They are well worth their weight in gold!

When your bags are over flowing in herbs and ore, your next stop is the Auction House. Put up all your herbs and ore, preferably in their largest stacks, and list everything. Search first, and see what the lowest buy out (for the largest stack) is, and list for just under the lowest by 1 copper! When you are done, head back out and keep going. You can make a lot of gold doing this, and much faster than just doing quests. But now you are competing against other farmers, and you are at the mercy of the Auction House prices!

Professions

Each profession has its own niche. I suggest you break out the spreadsheet and start figuring out from your Auction House which items you can make where the materials cost less than the final item. It can be a lot of work, so let me simplify it for you. Determine what people need to raid, to level, to get into heroics, and start listing these items. The only profession which is handicapped is Engineering, yet Engineering has its own niche market in pets and the chopper.

For alchemy, see what flasks are selling best, as well as mana potions and health potions. Determine which potions boost DPS for the different raiding classes and sell those too. If you are a transmutation specialized alchemist, then make sure you use your truegold transmute everyday! For tailoring, it’s all about bags bags and more bags! Don’t forget the thread leg enchants as well as epics you can craft as you gather orbs from heroics. Jewelcrafters will make gems. Blacksmiths will make belt buckles and armor. Enchanters will make enchanting scrolls or sell the enchants directly. I think you are getting the idea.

Some professions compliment others. A transmute specialist alchemist and jewelcrafter go well together. You can transmute inferno rubies, hope for procs, and cut them for maximum profits on the auction house. Tailoring and enchanting have always been a great combo. Make the cloth items with your tailor, and disenchant the items for materials and sell them on the auction house.

Auction House Manipulation

If you watch your auction house long enough, checking it daily, multiple times a day, you will notice item prices fluctuate. Once you determine a pattern, you can buy items on the down swing and sell on the upswing. It’s exactly like day trading on Wall Street. You might notice that raiding item prices spike late Tuesdays, and drop early mornings, usually on weekends. You can easily take advantage and pick up some great deals if you know when to look.

The other way to manipulate the auction house it to look for bargains. Many of your fellow players may not realize the actual value f items they list on the auction house. If you are well versed enough in the auction house, you can buy them quickly (before another savvy shopper picks it up) and make large profits. Unfortunately these huge wind falls don’t happen often. Usually you are looking to make 20% profit off of items, and go for quantity over quality.

The road to making WoW gold is a varied path. Some love gathering, others love questing and yet others love playing the market. You just have to find which suites your play style best.
